Volunteering

We welcome volunteers seven days a week (during daylight hours) and are always in need of more help!!

The work here is varied but largely physical. We can find something suitable for everyone’s ages and capabilities!

Our barn and coops are cleaned each morning, this is the best time for volunteers to join if they want to be more involved with the animal care. We also do monthly deep cleans and general tidy ups. We need help regularly with different tasks such as raking mulch to keep our roadways usable, invasive plant abatement and forest/brush thinning (for wildfire prevention), some gardening and other various projects. If you have a special interest or skill that you’d like to volunteer, please share that with us in your volunteer form.

We encourage our volunteers to spend extra time with the animals after their shift, to enjoy the sanctuary grounds, including a hike up our hill. Volunteers are welcome to bring food for a picnic, we have a seating available where you’ll enjoy the company of our chickens (out of respect for our residents, please only bring plant based food to the sanctuary).

We ask folks to commit to coming as regularly as they are able to (ideally once every week or two) both because organizing and training our new volunteers takes time and effort and so that the animals can enjoy getting to know you and have regular people. You’ll certainly make friends with some of our more social residents!

We aim to hold new volunteer days 3-4 times a month, some during the week and some on weekends.

* We also welcome volunteering from larger groups and organizations. If you’re interested in coming as a group for volunteering, please contact us with your approximate group number and desired date.
