Our Inquisitive Chickens

We have a diverse group of beautiful chickens. We love to watch our fellow animals enjoying life. They spend their days exploring, dust bathing, sun bathing and searching for grubs. Some of them like to follow us humans around and inspect our work! Others prefer to keep their distance from us. They all have unique personalities and their own little cliques within the group. The chickens also enjoy the company of other species of animals at the sanctuary even though most of them are significantly bigger than the chickens.

Felicity Approx. Birthdate: 7/12/21. She was given to someone in a paper bag who said he wanted a chicken dinner. Once he realized she was alive, he brought her to the animal shelter who contacted us. Arrived Home: 11/12/21

Freddie Approx. Birthdate: 4/28/21. We found him in the middle of the night after being dumped near our property and attacked by a racoon. We nursed his wounds and decided he should stay with us. Arrived Home: 8/28/21

Raphy & Donnie (RIP) Approx. Birthdate: 2/1/18. They were rescued from a commercial egg farm in Sonoma County that kills and discards hens at 18-24 months of age after their egg production declines slightly. Arrived Home: 2/1/22
