Animal Care Internship
We are currently looking for Animal Care Interns. This is a 3 month long rotating position, where interns are invited to live in community at the sanctuary helping to care for the animals.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Preparing animal food buckets and assisting with morning feeding and watering of barn and house animals.
Helping with maintaining and cleaning the shared community spaces, yard and grounds.
Assisting staff with barn and habitat cleaning and enrichment as well as special projects.
Assisting staff with animal health and behavior checks and helping to monitor any sick or injured animals.
Assisting staff with overseeing/helping direct volunteers and work parties.
Regularly sharing responsibility for some cooking prep or cleaning dishes with community members.
Keeping your individual space clean.
*Optional: if you like photography, you can contribute pictures and videos of the animals for our social media.
Ideal Qualifications:
Passionate about working for and with rescued farmed animals
Follow or are moving towards a Plant Based Diet (out of respect for our rescued residents, animal products are not permitted on sanctuary grounds)
Committed to One Living Sanctuary’s mission and a desire to be a part of the OLS community (details on our website)
Good observation skills and an ability to read animal behavior
Strong communication and listening skills and can work well with a variety of people
Reliable and dependable, team player and self motivator
Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks and an ability to learn and process new information quickly
Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather (average low is 35F) and hot summers (average high is 95-100F)
Able to lift 40-50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
Willing to work some weekend/holidays/varying shift times
Valid driver’s license and good driving record are beneficial, as is being comfortable driving a farm truck
Internship Specifications:
Volunteer commitment of around 35 hours per week, 5 days on with 2 days off
Some weekends and holidays will be required
Three month minimum commitment and two week trial period required (with signed internship agreement)

Private sleeping quarters provided onsite with shared community spaces, laundry and WiFi. Vegan food is available for you to prepare in the main house, some meals are provided (usually breakfasts and most dinners) which you can enjoy with the community or in your own space.
Note: This is a volunteer position, in exchange for animal sanctuary experience, room and board.
