<image:title>Our Team - Faith Albright, DVM Founder, President</image:title>
<image:caption>Faith has been vegan since 2004 after visiting a farmed animal sanctuary and learning about the terrible conditions these animals face. At that time, she dedicated her life to ending their suffering and began the long road to founding her own sanctuary. Becoming a veterinarian and paying off her student loans were the first two steps in this process. She received a degree in evolution, ecology, and biodiversity from UC Davis, and her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois. After working as a shelter vet in San Francisco for several years, Faith started her home euthanasia practice in 2014 and has enjoyed deeper interactions with clients and the relatively relaxed demeanor of pets in a familiar environment. She believes that our beloved pets should be allowed to pass surrounded by their loved ones, in the comfort and safety of their home. Until recently, she also worked with an amazing team as the surgeon doing regular spay and neuter clinics. In 2018, Dr. Albright realized her dream and founded One Living Sanctuary, now home to over 80 rescued farm animals happily living out their lives in peace. Her compassionate work as a home euthanasia vet directly supports the sweet animals who call this sanctuary home, as well as donations from kind-hearted animal lovers. Outside of veterinary work and sanctuary life, Faith enjoys the culinary arts, baking sourdough, meditation, yoga, running, biking, hiking and almost any outdoor activity. She regularly attends HAI workshops and volunteers on team.</image:caption>

<image:title>One Living Sanctuary</image:title>
<image:caption>Our Guiding Principles: Platinum Rule: Treat all beings as they would want to be treated. Cultivate compassion and respect for all life through daily practice. Lead by example, developing and sharing great new ideas and methods to help animals, people and the planet. To be kind, considerate, authentic and transparent in our relationships and communication. Vision One Living Sanctuary serves as a community center for like-minded people to work together to engage in environmentalism, social justice, spirituality, animal rescue, education and outreach. The Sanctuary provides a home for rescued animals to live out their lives as naturally as possible, enjoy love and connection with humans when desired, veterinary care as needed and to be compassionately freed from suffering when the time comes. Animal/Human Connection Animal rescue: rescued farm and some domestic animals are provided with housing and land appropriate to each species. For example, our chickens have a lockable coop for safety at night, and a larger space to roam during the day. People are able to interact with any rescued animals who choose to participate, through guided tours, which educate the public about the lives of the average farmed animal. Our tours allow a chance to combine didactic information with the tangible experience of meeting the animals. Rehabilitation: injured or orphaned wild animals brought to us are treated and rehabilitated, then released back into the wild when possible. We teach visitors about the value of compassionate care and provide education and resources so that others may gain a better understanding of urban wildlife as important members of our communities and not as pests. Dr. Faith Albright, our founder and veterinarian, sees to the health of animals at the sanctuary. Species specific and large animals vets in our area provide guidance and specialized care as needed. Community Tours: visitors are offered donation-based tours of the sanctuary, meeting rescued farmed animals and learning about our efforts in sustainability and land management strategies. Volunteers: folks are invited to help us care for the animals, aid with various projects, garden and tend to the land, while learning about our mission and enjoying the company of our rescued residents and the sanctuary land. Interns: will temporarily live in community at OLS, becoming part of our sanctuary team to care for the animals and tend the sanctuary facilities and grounds. All community members help to support each other and care for the community spaces and meals. Future Goals Workshops: One Living Sanctuary eventually wants to offer workshops on compassionate animal rescue and care as well as other topics both in our greater local community and at the sanctuary. Organizations with ethics in alignment with the sanctuary would be able to rent a community workshop space for their own events. Eco-Retreat: The sanctuary would like to provide sustainable housing options for personal and community retreats: we would start with camping, and expand to offer cabins and rooms that combine sustainability with utility and the aim to provide restorative relaxation and/or active engagement with animals and others. Health and Wellness: OLS would love to be able to offer massage and hot tub/sauna as well as nutrition courses and wholesome, plant-based food at the sanctuary. Over time, we may work with a healthcare team (e.g., doctor, acupuncturist, chiropractor, nutritionist, somatic therapist and/or other health professionals) to offer holistic, integrative health care on site.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pigs - It all started with Mason</image:title>
<image:caption>Mason was our first pig, who came to us after her former people couldn’t look after her any more. She had a wicked addiction for sugar, and was quite bad tempered as we weened her off her sweet diet, and onto one that’s healthier for her. As she adjusted to her new home, and we adjusted to her, she got less grumpy, and more enthusiastic about belly rubs. Almost a year later, and she’s incredibly affectionate: when I go to visit her, she’ll lumber over to me, and push her snout against my shin until I reach down and return the affection. Sometimes she wants her chin scratched and her head cradled, and sometimes she wants the full belly-rub. She’s incredibly vocal, even for a pig, and a good conversationalist. Come and see her, and stop for a chat! Her favorite snack is a banana. Approximate Birthdate: 8/10/13 Arrived Home: 8/10/19</image:caption>

He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. <image:title>Pigs - Peyton</image:title>
<image:caption>Peyton came to us barely weened from the bottle. She was part of a litter of pigs who was born accidentally to someone with a potbellied pig who did not want babies. They were removed from their mom too young and left at a shelter who called us for help. What struck me about her was how small she was (she could fit comfortably on my hand) and how loud she was! She is now full grown, and is still our smallest pig. She is in a bratty phase now where goes through mood swings. One day, she’ll be the nicest pig and solicit attention from everyone. The next day, she could be in a mood where she wants everyone except the person who feeds her to stay out of the yard! <image:title>Pigs - Yazzy</image:title>
<image:caption>Yazzy was rescued from Future Farmers of America. The kids who were raising her recognized her as an individual who is happy and loves belly rubs. They didn't want her to be slaughtered for food and made a pact to save her. Pigs are normally sent to slaughter when they are only six months old. Yazzy is one of the few lucky ones to be able to live out her natural life free from harm. She enjoys mud baths and hanging out with all the other animals, big and small. She loves everyone and will solicit attention from whoever stops by. It’s impressive how quickly she can drop to the ground for a belly rub! <image:title>Horses - Stormy</image:title>
<image:caption>Stormy was a wild mustang under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) until she was two years old. She was then captured from the wild, broken, and sold to be ridden. She eventually developed osteoarthritis and her person also started having some health and financial issues, so they couldn’t ride her, keep her, or sell her (because she couldn’t pass the lameness test.) Stormy has a brand (“freeze mark”) on the left side of her neck, which is a sign that she was a BLM wild horse. She is very shy around strangers, but feels very comfortable with her horse friends. She is slowly learning to trust us. We are so glad we are able to return her to wild roots as much as possible. Approximate Birthdate: 6/5/05 Arrived Home: 4/5/22</image:caption>

<image:title>Horses - Monte & Wizard</image:title>
<image:caption>One of our sanctuary supporters had a dream of rescuing a horse. We let her know we had room in our herd after the passing of our senior boy, Stanley. She came back to us with a proposition, a bonded pair, and we thought that was a great idea! Wizard and Monte lost their first home because Monte can no longer be riddendue to a ligament issue. The second home then realized it was more expensive than he expected to have horses and wanted to find them another home together. However, many people wanted to adopt Wizard, because he is a mini-horse, but wanted to leave Monte behind. A rescue group stepped in to help make sure they found a good home together. Wizard definitely didn’t want to leave his best friend and protector behind. We are so happy that we have room to let them live out the rest of their lives together in peace. Monte quickly established leadership in the herd, but Wizard also proved that he is a small but mighty force, and could end up being the herd leader. <image:title>Horses - Belle</image:title>
<image:caption>Belle was surrendered to SPCA Monterey County with an untreated eye condition and was underweight. The people surrendering her had her for about one year. They took her on as a rescue case and were overwhelmed by all the work. The SPCA found out she also has Cushing’s disease. They removed her eye, had a dental done on her and got her up to a healthy weight. We had recently said goodbye to our most outgoing horse, Strawberry, due to medical issues, which left a huge hole in our horse herd and in our hearts. When the SPCA reach out to asked if we could provide a forever home for Belle, we were glad to be able to rescue an animal in need in Strawberry’s memory. Belle is very sweet and gentle and likes to be scratched on her neck. Approximate Birthdate: 9/11/04 Arrived Home: 2/12/25</image:caption>

<image:title>Turkeys - Odie</image:title>
<image:caption>Approximate Birthdate: 7/1/2020 He was being raised for Thanksgiving dinner in a private home in the foothills and they allowed us to rescue him. He loves to strut his stuff and show off his beautiful display of feathers to everyone who visits. He is very curious and likes to follow people around to see if they have snacks for him. When our other turkeys passed away, Odie went to live at Animal Liberation Temple so he could have turkey friends. However, he was being too rough with them, so he came back to live with us. He enjoys hanging out with the pigs and chickens and occasionally tries to start problems with the goats :) Arrived Home: 12/26/2020</image:caption>

<image:caption>A backyard rancher raising goats for meat allowed us to rescue Daisy. We can tell she wasn’t treated well because she doesn’t want to be touched by people, even her regular caretakers. She will approach us to see if we have any snacks for her, but she doesn’t want any interaction beyond that. We are happy to let her live out her life here, where she is free to roam with her herd all day and doesn’t need to endure any unwanted human attention. <image:title>Goats - Violet & Cobalt</image:title>
<image:caption>We were lucky enough to rescue the adorable Violet and her son, Cobalt, from a petting zoo. Both goats are shy around people and didn’t like the unwanted attention they were receiving at the petting zoo. Petting zoos, as well as meat and dairy farms, painfully use a hot iron or caustic paste on goats when they are only a few days old so they don’t grow horns. This causes life long problems with for the goats as they sometimes grow a partial horn, which is painful when breaking through the scarring. Also, it is hard for them to defend themselves when a goat with horns head butts them as a challenge or to keep them away from food. Cobalt was neutered at the petting zoo with the banding method, where a small rubber band is placed around the scrotum. This is also a painful practice that last for weeks while the tissue dies and falls off. Violet and Cobalt are sweet and sensitive. They have friends within our herd, and have gotten more comfortable around the people they trust. <image:title>Goats - Paisley & Emma</image:title>
<image:caption>Emma was rescued from a Rio Vista meat farm by a kind person and was very nervous at first. Emma was already pregnant when she was rescued and soon gave birth to Paisley. The caretaker saw that Paisley was very sick but was able to nurse her back to health. Paisley grew up to be significantly larger than her mother! The neighbors eventually complained about the goats, so their person reached out to us to take them. Emma is very sweet and gentle and has the cutest little legs! When our previous herd leader, Petal, passed away, Paisley was very quick to step into the leader role. She is a great protector of the herd, and isn’t shy about using her horns to move people and goats out of her way. She loves to be brushed though, and keeps her horns to herself when the brush comes out! <image:caption>Phil was rescued by Animal Liberation Temple from a farmer who thought he was too aggressive. Phil was being feed a poor diet and had his horns removed in the most inhumane way possible, so it’s understandable if Phil didn’t like the farmer. We have never experienced any aggression from Phil. He is one of the sweetest, most gentle and social goats we’ve ever met. When the brushes come out, Phil is always first in line and stays close by when his turn is over, hoping to be brushed again or encouraging people to pet him with their free hand while they’re brushing someone else!
